University of Santiago de Compostela. I work as a Full Professor of English Language and Linguistics at the University of Santiago de Compostela. On a British Council scholarship.

The research unit Variation, Linguistic Change and Grammaticalization. Was established in the 1990s by Professor Teresa Fanego. And a team of scholars based at the Department of English and German of the University of Santiago de Compostela. We carry out corpus-based research on grammatical change in the history of English. On changes going on in Present-day English. And on varieties of English generally.

MMTAFL aims to contribute to the development of teaching materials, to the analysis of elicited data in second language learning and to the relationship between language and cognition. Research areas and topics covered by the group members include cross-linguistic influence, thinking for speaking in SLA, the acquisition of spatial language by L2 learners, motivation in SLA, gestures in SLA, intercultural communication, development of teaching materials, and pragmatics.

In 2014 we joined the ICE, a project initiated in 1988 by the late Professor Sidney Greenbaum, the then Director of the Survey of English Usage, University College London. It is now coordinated by Professor Gerald Nelson at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, in collaboration with twenty-six research teams around the world.
